A wedding is a lot to handle! Will be on hiatus for a while, but will hopefully have some fun things up after!Tabihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08572130000040387283noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1039991262804847462.post-19183736215053615552012-12-11T14:59:00.000-08:002012-12-11T14:59:13.017-08:00SO MUCH HAPPENING!Haven't posted in a while unfortunately! I have my last semester of university! I'll be finishing my marketing minor, graduating in December, and getting married in May! I am planning on doing lots of crafts and arts for the wedding, so I will have to post all the save the date cards, wedding invitations, and decorations once it's all said and done! Today seems to be exclamation mark day!!!!!!!!! Excited to post new things when I can (I've been too focused on marketing!).Tabihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08572130000040387283noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1039991262804847462.post-57942480715019010342012-07-22T22:19:00.000-07:002012-08-29T07:37:21.508-07:00Loki Reborn<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">These are the different forms Loki has taken throughout the Marvel comics. Hey all! Just a recap, my senior project is of a fifteen page illustrated children's book on four fables (based on the fox character) of the out of copyright text "Aesop in Rhyme." The dimensions of the book is 10" high x 8" wide (so 10" high x 16" wide when open as a full spread).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are images of the layouts in color (images of the finalized pieces with text will be added in a short while). The original art work has a bluer background, which was fairly light. Since I wasn't sure if I liked the blue "sky" background or not I chose to leave it out for the most part.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Luckily, I was allowed to turn in the bound version of the book Friday along with my process work so I'll be posting images of the finished/bound book later as well.</div>

Post of Layouts<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's another post on the re-drawn/cleaned-up line drawings and placement of the text. Unfortunately, I've been feeling really busy working on these so (even though the posts should have been more spread out) I'm trying to make up for it by posting now with the work I've been doing.</div>

Yay! Look forward to a bunch of foxes! So far I have worked on breaking up the text and it looks like the illustrated children's book will have five fables and eighteen illustrated pages. I have researched a reference file for red foxes and drew up a bunch of foxes just to get me more familiar with the animal (pictures of the sketches will be posted later as I find a method of uploading since I don't have a scanner). I also drew a couple of the foxes in old english clothing (I have sketches of old english clothing for men and women I will also (later) post. I tried a quick color version of one of the foxes with marker and am debating on using a similar style with acrylic paint. The next phase is to draw some base sketches of the book layout (get a good idea of what illustrations will be on each page). I have already marked out a few notes as three fables will have three illustrations each, one fable having four illustrations,and another having five illustrations. So far, only one fable has a full spread illustration, but I am planning on changing that since it would be a more interesting break up if there were more full spreads interspersed among single page illustrations. I'm thinking of connecting some of the single page ones together in a way that a visible action can be seen so the pages are linked together through movement. I'll have a better example of that (a visible one) later as I work on it.<div><br /></div><div>Monday is my first presentation day so I am hoping to get a lot more done by then. The audience will be from young children (approximately three to eight years of age), to parental figures, child educators, and child caretakers. The age range included is focused on young children developing vocabulary and reading comprehension. Illustrated children books are namely for kids learning to understand basic language skills while keeping their concentration in being entertaining as a childʼs skills develop. Those involved with this age group (parents, grandparents, teachers, care-takers, etc.) are also important people to consider as they are the main figures of control to what the interest party (young children) may be exposed to. The text is focused on providing morals and so as the child learns word recognition, a paternal figure can help explain both the moral aspects as well as any vocabulary the child is beginning to become more knowledgeable about. The book can be used for the purpose of being read aloud or independent reading as children learn to sound aloud words (knowing the end words tend to rhyme with each other is a helpful factor in learning pronunciation of a word).</p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 10.0px Helvetica"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>‐ To define a more specific audience targeting would be aiming for areas more prone to positive feelings towards animals (as the book <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>includes mainly a personified fox). He gives the sons three tasks to accomplish and whomsoever does the best in achieving these tasks will rule his kingdom. All the sons go valiantly forth to achieve these tasks. The youngest however finds a spectacular castle run by enchanted cats. A beautiful white cat greets him as the madam of the area. The youngest prince realizes that these are no ordinary cats and spends an enchanted time the white cat. The first two tasks the king sets out are accomplished with the help of the white cat, and the third task is to bring home a beautiful maiden to wed to become the queen of the kingdom. At this, the white cat forces the youngest prince to cut off her head and tail and throw them into a fire. The body of the white cat then transforms into a beautiful maiden that explains that she was cursed. In her own right, the white cat (now woman) is a queen with her own kingdoms. After returning home with this queen, the youngest prince wins his father’s throne. This queen grants his brothers kingdoms of their own to rule and lets the father continue ruling his though as she and the youngest prince marry and rule over her remaining kingdoms.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p> <p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-left:1.0in;mso-add-space:auto; text-indent:-.25in;mso-list:l0 level2 lfo1"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;"><span style="font-family:";"><span style="mso-list:Ignore">o<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> </span></span></span><!--[endif]--><span style="font-family:Helvetica;">Some parts such as the mutilation of the white cat will be rewritten to be more appropriate for the intended audience.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p> <p class="Body" style="line-height:120%"><span style="font-size:100%;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p> <p class="Body" style="line-height:120%"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal"><span style="font-size:100%;">2. Academic / educational goal of the paper or project:<o:p></o:p></span></i></p> <p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="margin-left:0in;mso-add-space:auto"><span style="font-family:Helvetica;font-size:100%;">What I will learn from this project is character development, visual storytelling, and brand development. As an illustrator it is important to get the audience to be involved with the subject matter and this involves creating interesting and intriguing characters that a person will like to know more about. Visual storytelling is another important tool, as the message to be given must be clearly and quickly understood. I need to better enhance my skills at making the purpose of my work easily known. A huge opportunity to being successful is to create a marketable idea. I need to be able to take my illustration techniques and make them into something that can be branded (something unique and recognizable that can be purposely sought out).<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-left:0in;mso-add-space:auto"><span style="font-family:Helvetica;font-size:100%;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p> <p class="Body" style="line-height:120%"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal"><span style="font-size:100%;">3. How, specifically, does this project go beyond existing course projects?<o:p></o:p></span></i></p> <p class="Body" style="line-height:120%"><span style=" line-height:120%;font-size:100%;">This project goes beyond existing course projects in that I will be in charge of all the aspects of it myself, attempting to utilize the full capacity of my creativity; from the idea of the project to its conception I need to be able to pull off its success as a cohesive and professional work. The aspect of developing characters of my own should exemplify knowledge of social/audience expectations and interest. Building these characters into a brand to be marketable is also a unique aspect. With the fairly different deliverables, there must be a consistency throughout them that individualizes these products as being a part of one, identifiable brand. In the way “Hello Kitty” or “Disney” can be seen through all different types of media, my goal is to somewhat simulate this through my project. The “brand” must be able to easily transfer and adapt to whatever product it can be a part of. Though we have had projects with different deliverables, the projects were preconceived, made for a select purpose, and confined. This project shall extend to what I can conceive individually, expand it to be able to be a part of various products (not just advertising/promotions), and be an example of work that better portrays what I would personally like to be involved with after graduation.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="Body" style="line-height:120%"><o:p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;"> </span></o:p></p> <p class="Body" style="line-height:120%"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal"><span style="font-size:100%;">4. Research necessary for the project or paper. For my ideas I have looked into examples of the products I plan to make as my deliverables (children books, greeting cards, etc.), and I have listed helpful resources and examples I can reference in regards to writing and making the material needed for this project.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-left:0in;mso-add-space:auto"><span style="font-family:Helvetica;font-size:100%;">There are several things I would need to research. I would have to research both new and past forms of illustrating as well as any surveys that can be beneficial in determining appropriate methods of delivering/creating my material (what’s familiar and/or popular). Further questions I may have will need to be answered appropriately whether through help of faculty, online research, etc<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-left:0in;mso-add-space:auto"><span style="font-family:Helvetica;font-size:100%;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p> <p class="Body" style="line-height:120%"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal"><span style="font-size:100%;">5. If there is other information that supplements the description of your project, you may attach pages as needed. All written information must be typed or word-processed. Use complete sentences and include each question. Please be as detailed as possible. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>1. Subject or title:</b></div><div style="text-align: left;">Title: Character Branding</div><div style="text-align: left;">Deliverables: Short children’s book, small calendar, approximately three different cards (exemplifying the brand in its own line of greeting cards), and a journal.</div><div style="text-align: left;">Description: The illustrated children’s book will be a short, self-written, story about a young girl who imagines herself in different fantastical situations as either the heroine, mythical creature, villain, etc. Her little toy fox is her companion in all of these situations (reminiscent of Calvin & Hobbes). The plot of the book is that your life is how you make it.</div><div style="text-align: left;">o<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>This short book will introduce a set of characters and a brand based on this book will be developed as the other deliverables exemplify marketability.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>2. Academic / educational goal of the paper or project:</b></div><div style="text-align: left;">What I will learn from this project is character development, visual storytelling, and brand development. I need to be able to take my illustration techniques and make them into something that can be branded (something unique and recognizable that can be purposely sought out).</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>3. How, specifically, does this project go beyond existing course projects?</b></div><div style="text-align: left;">This project goes beyond existing course projects in that I will be in charge of all the aspects of it myself, attempting to utilize the full capacity of my creativity; from the idea of the project to its conception I need to be able to pull off its success as a cohesive and professional work. In the way “Hello Kitty” or “X-Men” can be seen through all different types of media, my goal is to somewhat simulate this through my project. The “brand” must be able to easily transfer and adapt to whatever product it can be a part of. Though we have had projects with different deliverables, the projects were preconceived, made for a select purpose, and confined. This project shall extend to what I can conceive individually, expand it to be able to be a part of various products (not just advertising/promotions), and be an example of work that better portrays what I would personally like to be involved with after graduation.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>4. Research necessary for the project or paper. Describe any research completed: (surveys, interviews, publications, etc.)</b></div><div style="text-align: left;">Any research I have done so far has been fairly superficial. For my ideas I have looked into examples of the products I plan to make as my deliverables (children books, greeting cards, etc.), and I have listed helpful resources and examples I can reference in regards to writing and making the material needed for this project.</div><div style="text-align: left;">There are several things I would need to research. I need to research a solid writing technique in creating my own material for the storybook (this will include various writing manuals, possibly interviewing writers/literature-English majors, and basic examples of “classic”/”good” illustrated children’s books. I would also have to research both new and past forms of illustrating as well as any surveys that can be beneficial in determining appropriate methods of delivering/creating my material (what’s familiar and/or popular). Further questions I may have will need to be answered appropriately whether through help of faculty, online research, etc</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>5. PROJECT ONLY: Form of the project: Describe what the individual pieces would be: number of pieces, sizes, colors, materials, techniques, quantity.</b></div><div style="text-align: left;">The number of pieces in the project will be a total of six individual items. This will include a short children’s book, a small calendar, three different greeting cards, and a journal. The short children’s book will be the story form of a “pilot” for television shows. It introduces a broad plotline (as aforementioned) and a set of characters. This book will be the main source from which the other deliverables will branch off of. Presuming that the book has marketing potential, it can be set up for a series and is practical for marketing different products. By creating a brand based off of this book, the brand can be used to encompass products such as calendars, a line of greeting cards, and various notebooks. The project deliverables (along with the book) will have…</div><div style="text-align: left;">-<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>A small calendar: About the size of an index card, all months on one page face, the visuals of it all connecting with the book.</div><div style="text-align: left;">-<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Three different greeting cards: Each card is for a different “event” (Valentine’s Day, Thank You, Halloween…) to demonstrate the characters from the book as easily adaptable.</div><div style="text-align: left;">-<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>A Journal: About the size of a small notebook (roughly five inches wide and eight inches high), the journal will have visuals connecting with the book. Visuals will include the cover, the back, an opening page, and the rest of the pages inside with a recurring header on each page of the journal.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>6. PROJECT ONLY: How will the final pieces be presented? (comped, printed, electronic, actual art, etc.)</b></div><div style="text-align: left;">The final pieces will be presented as physical (namely printed) items. The small children’s book will have printed illustrations, as will the cardstock small calendar and greeting cards, and double-wire-o bound journal.</div><div><br /></div></div>Tabihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08572130000040387283noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1039991262804847462.post-2040889459437320762012-01-22T15:24:00.000-08:002012-01-22T15:51:56.131-08:00Senior Project Proposal IdeasIdea Generation: Finding a topic...<div><br /></div><div>(at least) 3 Problems in the world that interests me:</div><div>- Trying to discover an alternative fuel source</div><div>- Equal rights</div><div>- Helping the education system</div><div>- SOPA (stop online piracy act) & PIPA (protect IP act)</div><div>- Lack of interest in physical, printed books</div><div>- Endangered species</div><div><br /></div><div>(at least) 3 Problems locally that interest me: (in Kent, Cleveland, Akron, or Ohio)</div><div>- Gay rights</div><div>- Need of more jobs</div><div>- Drilling for natural gas</div><div><br /></div><div>If I couldnt' be a designer, illustrator or photographer after graduating what would I do instead?</div><div>- I know it would take learning/education, but being a writer would be exciting.</div><div><br /></div><div>What is my dream job?</div><div>- An illustrator for children's books or maybe even graphic novels.</div><div><br /></div><div>(at least) 3 Personal interests or hobbies:</div><div>- Reading</div><div>- Television shows </div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></span>- The Big Bang Theory, Game of Thrones, Once Upon a Time, etc.)</div><div>- Superheroes, Fairy Tales, etc.</div><div>- Animals/pets</div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></span>- Currently have one golden labrador retriever named Lea</div><div>- Playing board games</div><div><br /></div><div>(at least) 3 Professional Interests (in design, illustration or photography related)</div><div>- Digital Painting</div><div>- Watercolor</div><div>- Book Illustrations</div><div>- Looking through a collective art book or different illustrators/artists/photographers, social expressions material (namely greeting cards), etc.</div><div>- Different painting techniques (just to learn more)</div><div><br /></div><div>Where do I hope to live after graduation?</div><div>- Still in Ohio (relatively close to where I am now)</div><div>- If moving were an option (and I could afford the cost of living), San Francisco would be my non-Ohio area choice</div><div><br /></div><div>Who is my favorite designer, photographer or illustrator? This means... Senior Projects!! For my Senior Proposal class, we listed things of interest to each of us. Here's mine...<div><br /></div><div>Tabitha Lee - Illustration</div><div>- Watercolor</div><div>- Pen & Ink</div><div>*Children Book Illustrations</div><div>* Fairy Tales</div><div>- Cartoons</div><div>* Comic Books</div><div>- Animals</div><div>- Characters</div><div>- Fantasy</div><div>- Myths/Legends/Folklore</div><div>- The color red (not that I don't love other colors)</div><div>- Visual historical references (clothes, antiques, etc.)</div><div>- Reading (fiction)</div><div>- Food</div><div>- Comedy</div><div>- Clothes</div><div>- The Big Bang Theory (the t.v. show)</div><div>* Social Expressions (greeting cards, etc.)</div><div><br /></div><div>So, you can probably tell a few of the end ones there I just threw in for good measure. The ones with the (*) mean that getting into any profession related to these would be fantastic!! My dream job would be to illustrate for any kind of writing, but for now I think trying to get a job with a large social expressions company would be a fantastic start. It would teach me a whole lot about the business and be a great learning experience overall.</div><div><br /></div><div>Bonus~</div><div>With the Senior Proposal course comes updating this blog every week or so on how I'm doing with my Senior Project! This should mean I should have more steady posts. Using this list, I've already got some ideas working in my head for the project. Will update later :)</div>Tabihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08572130000040387283noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1039991262804847462.post-45981110393813301442012-01-04T11:06:00.000-08:002012-01-04T11:09:09.568-08:00TimeI cannot believe how long it's been since I last posted. I do have more works to share, but I am trying to get a better scanner (as well as fix up my work before my Senior show). Senior year has been kicking my butt though. I need to find more time in the day!! Hopefully, I'll be able to get that scanner sooner rather than later in order to do a much needed update.Tabihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08572130000040387283noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1039991262804847462.post-36125725482160141582011-04-06T08:34:00.001-07:002011-04-15T07:11:41.320-07:00CD Cover<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(51, 51, 153); ">This project is a CD Cover for...</span></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizGcYxW-IPr4bp1Xzt-mF2JGB8yKXb3zY8iMXj6Ijm0q5lxmxrOMpOa9P5KPwcAYXiSuheuL-eiZ7GeHFL0Tp6NwanG6OSq69br9pihvM8J3gZEM7DRVe2RG7MfJeLbDQJ3F8UqHkctrQ/s320/Scan-8+%2528Colorful+Glow%2529-8.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5595812651715312610" /><div style="text-align: left; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333399;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#000000;"><div style="text-align: center; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333399;">... Shellhouse still can't help but to dream big. With a Science teacher dad, a Guidance Counselor mom, and a History major brother, K. somehow becomes the odd one out as the lover of graphic design. On his trip to England, K. finds himself bonding with the famous London Underground. This rapid transit system can go anywhere. Where will he find himself going though? As Kevin journeys to new and exciting places, he struggles to find his place in life while staying true to who he is underneath it all.</span></span></p></span></span></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 233px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMY38qLFPVotsCBKBAuxqQaqTDbx1jrbgfKF9AQSYtQN0773kKe8ADNKJj-0w8nSeQ4q9oZbhRAPn-qLjcWiiX_5-OJIEtoWikTzkfqP1t6zfL7rEEP5Esj-AWBztMaix1geff0GBk4z8/s320/Combo.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569538389965055474" /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;color:#333399;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px; font-size:small;">(these are just some photos of it in printed form). I also tinted the iconic red circle and blue bar of the Underground sign on the book title. The back shows the silhouette of some stair rails leading underground and the Underground sign next to it. When I interviewed K., he seemed most interested in his recent trip to London and Paris and was particularly interested in the London Underground. Of course I took the metaphorical approach of comparing the Underground's ability to take one "everywhere" to K.'s life able to go to so many different paths and how he needs to "find himself" while staying true to who he is on the inside (or "underneath it all).</span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;color:#333399;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px; font-size:small;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;color:#333399;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px; font-size:small;">This project is an illustration for...</span></span></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA050fV2lMpkYOaas1gZcCeXm3eS6zCFPmNUH9lk7UFo9ZZKWhU1hfxVDgmSaYUnk7JMSVnJQ0QyEWXo4isTSzJmJ38ETf8ROZtUsh1p-EHgynk_dgKMFcEa6qwqRqnbu4DYC6I6Gf6EQ/s400/TwistedShirleyTemple.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5569542039542917378" /><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" color: rgb(51, 51, 153); line-height: 18px; font-family:Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;font-size:small;">... They Draw and Cook. An illustration for a Twisted Shirley Temple recipe. The medium is watercolor with a bit of color manipulation on Photoshop.</span></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" color: rgb(51, 51, 153); line-height: 18px; font-family:Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(87, 87, 87); line-height: 14px; font-size:11px;">The illustration didn't come out quite as I had hoped. The color changed a bit when I uploaded it onto the computer, so I had to manipulate it a bit. I also had a struggle wanting to add more detail to the umbrellas and drink, but at the same time did not want the text to be too hard to read. Also, I debated on doing hand written text verses text from the computer, but I had more votes on the handwritten so that's what I went with (but am still unsure whether I "agree" with how it came out). I love the girl's curls though and wish I could've incorporated that detail more on the right side of the illustration. This shirley temple is "twisted" because my recipe adds a nice ginger syrup that adds a bit of a kick to it.</span></span></div>Tabihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08572130000040387283noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1039991262804847462.post-4805344171627922262011-01-17T18:12:00.001-08:002011-01-26T13:31:27.915-08:00MLK Jr WeekendSorry I'm a tad late, but I will indeed upload my projects as I finish them. :)Tabihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08572130000040387283noreply@blogger.com0
